WORLD BOXING POUND FOR POUND KING WINS AGAIN
November 15th 2009 23:09
Here is the man. His name is Many Pacquiao.
He is considered the world’s best pound for pound boxer. And he has just proven himself once again when he became the first boxer in the world to win the world championship in seven (7) weight divisions!
He is a Filipino, and in case you are not into boxing, he just sent his latest opponent, Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto (Nov.14 at MGM Grand Arena), into the canvass twice (2x) to win his 7th title (this time as Welterweight Champion).
Before his foray in the Welterweight Division, he was among the only 5 or 6 boxers to ever hold 6 titles in six boxing divisions.
The guy is good, really good. He punches like nobody else does (he packs power punches in both arms) and he has proven himself many times over in the world-boxing arena. For that I am proud of him being a Filipino myself.
Watch him fight in person or in television and you won’t find it hard to idolize the guy.
But I can’t. I mean, I can’t bow to him despite the fact that I’ve watched him fight and win most of those titles in those seven weight divisions.
Reason?
Politics. Plain and simple politics.
The guy ran for a political position in Southern Philippines during the last election and lost - to a woman.
Actually, it wouldn’t have mattered whether he won or lost to a man or a woman in that election. The thing is, he ran for an elective position. And for that, he can no longer be an idol – to me.
I am nobody. I don’t count. So, it’s not like he is losing anything for not having me as an avid fan.
Except, I am not the only one who thinks Pacquiao shouldn’t go into politics. Many think that the reason he lost to a woman when he tried politics the first time around was because the voters wanted to save him from it.
There’s a telling joke in this country that goes: “If you are angry with somebody, tell that person to go (not to hell) into politics!” It is because politics in this country is considered dirty. No, VERY dirty!
AS a boxing Icon, Manny Pacquiao deserves to be put on a pedestal - many times over. I can’t understand why he still wants to go into politics. I’m almost certain it is not for the money. He makes his millions in US dollars, and he makes them in much less time than anyone ever does.
He doesn’t need fame. He is already very popular. He is not doing it for women, either. If reports are true, he is already in trouble because of too many of them in his life.
So, is he doing it for power?
If so, then it is the kind of power that corrupts. As a 7x world boxing champion in 7 categories, he is already rich, famous and powerful. If all he wants to do is to help the needy, he can do so by just being what he is. Why take the dirty path and sully his own name?
Maybe that is why I can’t get myself to bow to the guy.

Boxing is not for me, oh no, the wimp, fobzy, just might get hurt.
Hope things are booming along for you again, you should have stayed on the farm, two weeks was just not long enough, if you want to develop muscles, farming is the way to go.
But we all enjoyed your company, even little Charlie, it seems you have a way with you.

And oh, that car I mentioned a while back? The one I was told was the only one of that model left in the world? Have taken the snapshots already. Should see print soon enough.
